Wildcats bomb Baton Rouge with 75-59 road victory

            BATON ROUGE, La. --- Pearl River Community College’s Wildcat basketball squad demolished Baton Rouge CC here Thursday taking a lopsided 75-59 victory to remain undefeated at 6-0.
            The host Bears, on the other hand, dropped to 3-6 and will play a visiting role when the two teams eye a rematch Monday, Dec. 2, in Shivers Gymnasium on the PRCC campus in Poplarville.
            PRCC led 43-20 at the intermission before outscoring BRCC 32-29 in the second half to take the 16-point victory.
            Jeremy Hollimon of Gulfport High paced the Wildcats with a game-high 24 points, including four treys (four assists), while Kaven Bernard out of Assumption High in Napoleonville, La., added 12 (seven rebounds), Bryant McGee nine (six rebounds), Lester Crosby of Franklinton (La.) High eight, DeAngelo Coleman of South Pike High six (seven assists, two treys), Quintarius Porter out of Forest Hill High in Jackson six, Joshua Johnson out of Carroll High in Monroe, La., five, Devontai Foye of Hattiesburg High four, and Irishma Bowie of Morton High one (three assists).
            Darryl Braggs led the Bears’ scoring attack with 17 points, followed by Denzel Fleming with 11, Brian Sylvester 10, Joshua Ivory eight, Henry Pryor four, Michael Fulton three, and Terry Blythe 2.
            Pearl River hit 55.4 percent (20 of 54) from the field to Baton Rouge’s 38.9 percent (21 of 54), while the Wildcats were six of 12 (50 percent) from three-point range to the Bears’ three-of-17 (17.2 percent) effort. At the foul line, PRCC was nine of 12 (75 percent), while BRCC was 14 of 19 (73.7 percent).
            Baton Rouge out-rebounded The River 32 (18 offensive, 14 defensive) to 21 (11 offensive, 20 defensive), while the Wildcats committed 15 turnovers in the game to the Bears’ 18.
            Following the PRCC men’s 6:30 p.m. rematch with BRCC Dec. 2, The River’s women and men open their MACJC South Division schedule Thursday, Dec. 5, against Hinds in Utica with 6 p.m. (women) and 8 p.m. (men games).
