Pearl River Community College got a rude wake-up call Tuesday night against Mississippi Gulf Coast, dropping a 4-0 decision in South Division action at Perkinston.
The game started turning against PRCC (3-1, 1-1 in South) less than 14 minutes into the game, when an apparent goal by Bo Bowman (Bay St. Louis) was waved off on a questionable offside call.
After that, Gulf Coast (3-1, 2-0) clamped down on defense, holding the Wildcats to just two shots on goal for the game, both in the first half. The Bulldogs’ patience was rewarded at 40:49 with a goal off a quick free kick that caught Pearl River by surprise.
The second half was all Gulf Coast, as the Bulldogs made it 2-0 in the 61st minute, then added goals at 79:49 and 86:14 to complete the rout.
Redshirt freshman Kobe Lie (Hattiesburg) had nine saves in goal for the Wildcats, as he faced 13 shots on goal, nine in the second half.
PRCC will get some time to regroup as the Wildcats don’t play again until next Tuesday, when they host Southwest Mississippi. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
