Wildcats cruise past Bishop State in season opener

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College had a successful opener to the 2017-18 men’s basketball season Thursday night, rolling past Bishop State (Ala.) 78-48 at M.R. White Coliseum.
 
Freshman Eric Thornton Jr. (Jackson) led the Wildcats with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Thornton is a 6-foot-3 guard, one of three incoming freshmen from Murrah High on the PRCC roster.
 
Sophomore Brandon Cranford (Louisville, Ky.) had 12 points and 4 rebounds. Cranford played for Simpson Academy and Northwest Mississippi Community College before transferring to Pearl River this season.
 
Returning sophomore Cameron Douglas (Columbus) added 9 points and 7 rebounds for the Wildcats.
 
Pearl River will travel to New Orleans on Saturday to take on Delgado (La.). Scheduled tipoff is 4 p.m. Next home game for the Wildcats will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday against Louisiana Christian.
