Wildcats use big second-half surge to get past Hinds

Pearl River Community College came out of the halftime locker room with a strong second half, and rode that momentum to a 77-64 victory over Hinds Thursday night in men’s basketball action at Utica.

The Wildcats (10-3 overall and 2-2 in division snapped a two-game losing streak in the South Division with the victory. Hinds (8-5, 0-4) dropped its third straight game.

After a see-saw first half, Hinds ended the period on a 14-6 run to lead at halftime 39-33. However, PRCC was red-hot in the first 10 minutes of the second half, outscoring the Bulldogs 25-10, and maintained a comfortable lead the rest of the way.

For the game, Pearl River converted 30 of 44 shots from the field (68.2 percent), its best shooting night of the season, including 6 of 13 shots from 3-point range.

Freshman Jamani Glover led the Wildcats with 20 points. Freshman Ryan McRaney finished with 16 points and sophomore Branden Sheppard added 15 points.

Pearl River will be back home at 7:30 p.m. Monday to take on East Central at M.R. White Coliseum, then the Wildcats are back on the road Thursday to face Mississippi Gulf Coast at Perkinston.
