Pearl River Community College President, Dr. Adam Breerwood, welcomed the faculty and staff at the 2019 professional development session, using a team atmosphere, with the theme Fill Your Cup.

During his welcome, he used the analogy of mountain climbing and the many team members it takes to reach the summit. Often climbers stop halfway ready to give up their goal but surrounded by a strong team an explorer can find success.

“When you hit a bumpy patch during the semester, what is going to spill out of your cup?” Breerwood asked the faculty and staff. “Is it going to be complaints and negativity, or will it be patience and understanding?”

Dr. Breerwood encouraged the group to “fill their cups” with positivity, empathy, and strong team members for the upcoming year.

After the group dismissed, the day continued at the Marvin R. White coliseum with teams participating in leadership building activities. They ran, jumped, completed projects, and built comradery among the members.

Faculty will continue professional development activities with campus and departmental meetings throughout the week.  On Thursday, August 15th and Friday, August 16th, advisors will be working during open registration to assist new and returning students. Dorm students will move on campus Saturday, August 17th and Sunday, August 18th with the Fall 2019 semester beginning Monday, August 19th.   Pearl River’s team members are already “filling their cups” with enthusiasm for the upcoming school year.

Since 2005, the Pearl River Community College Hancock Center has been providing students with an opportunity to receive a quality education by preparing them to complete a degree or certificate program. The Hancock Center also provides workforce training programs required by local businesses, industries, educational and public service agencies. PRCC’s continued dedication to the success of their students allows for bright futures to be created within the walls of the institution and out in the community. This year, the Hancock Center will break ground on the Hancock Aviation Aerospace Workforce near Stennis International Airport to meet industry demands while increasing workforce development in Hancock County.

“It is very rewarding to be part of a team that is making a difference in the communities we live in. Every day I get the joy of meeting new people and sharing the vision of Pearl River Community College for today and in the future,” said Angie Kothmann, Pearl River’s Director of Government & Community Relations.

Raymunda Barnes also reiterated the importance of the impact The Hancock Center has on the local community.

“On any given day, members of the Hancock Center Team can be found on campus and in the community making a difference in the lives of Hancock County residents,” said Barnes. “From contributing to the Hancock County Food Pantry through student can food drives to participating in Pearlington’s Library Trunk or Treat event, from active participation in county-wide Hancock Chamber events (Teacher Appreciation and High School Senior Breakfast) to participation in local Boy Scout Troop activities and CASA initiatives, this team continues to contribute to the community and is very much appreciative of the recognition.”

PRCC will continue to be an ever-present staple in the Hancock County community and a resource for local industry.
