Summary of the Job:
The Health Information Management Analyst will be capable of Scanning, Indexing, Analyzing and performing the Suspension processing for high-volume and/or specialized and complex medical records as well as ensuring documentation accuracy and confidentiality. The HIM Analyst performs the daily suspension process, scans and indexes medical records for all patient types and determines which documents are true and legal records; and scans and indexes the documents into the patient's medical record following the department's guidelines.
The Analysis process includes reviewing inpatient and outpatient records to ensure chart completion; assist the medical and support staff in the chart completion process; reviews paper and electronic medical records to determine if documentation is available for all and/or specific episodes of care for clinic encounters and hospital visits.
Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent required; 4 -6 years of relevant experience OR Associate's or Bachelor's degree in lieu of experience. Experience in an HIM department with an electronic medical record; Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology; Knowledge of Joint Commission and CMS regulations regarding medical record documentation; Experience utilizing strong analytical and reasoning skills when performing procedures requiring attention to detail; Ability to make sound decisions based on analysis in the absence of a supervisor; Knowledge of commonly used relevant hospital and/or clinic systems, concepts, practices and procedures; Proficient in data entry in order to index records with speed and accuracy; Proficient in the use of personal computers, Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Power Point); Excellent interpersonal, verbal and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Associate or Bachelor degree. RHIT, preferred.
Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 10 pounds is required.
