Summary of the Job:
The Hospital Coder I reviews and accurately codes and abstracts basic hospital services such as outpatient diagnostic testing, Emergency Department services, low acuity inpatient and other less complex medical coding. The Hospital Coder I utilize appropriate coding guidelines to assign ICD and CPT codes. Must understand and conform to applicable Medicare, Medicaid and other third party payor guidelines to ensure receipt of accurate reimbursement.
Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent required; Graduate of an accredited associates program or the completion of AHIMA / AAPC coding program. Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), required. 1– 3 years of coding experience in a hospital setting. Knowledge of ICD-10 and basic coding principles; basic computer skills; effective communication skills – both verbal and written.
Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 10 pounds is required.
