

Mr. Archie Rawls:
Department Chair, Music Theory, Applied Woodwinds, Director of "Jazz Cats"
At the beginning of the 2009 fall semester, Archie Rawls entered his 30th year of service at PRCC. A native of Poplarville, Rawls holds the Associate of Arts degree from Pearl River College, the Bachelor of Music Education degree and the Master of Music Education degree from The University of Southern Mississippi. During his tenure, the band and music programs have seen steady growth in both enrollment and quality.
Rawls is active in many professional organizations, including the Mississippi Bandmasters Association and Phi Beta Mu, the international bandmasters fraternity. He has served two terms as president of the Mississippi Junior/Community College Band Directors Association. As an educator, Rawls is actively sought after as an adjudicator and clinician for marching, concert and jazz bands throughout the region.
In addition to his duties as Fine Arts and Communications Department Chair, Rawls teaches courses in Music Theory, Sight-singing and Ear-training, and Applied Woodwinds. He also serves as director of the highly-acclaimed PRCC Jazz Ensemble, “The Jazz Cats” and assists with the back-up band for the “RiverRoad” showchoir.
