Automation and Control Technology
Poplarville Campus

Automation and Control Technology is a two-year instructional program that provides students with technical knowledge and skills necessary for gaining employment as an automated manufacturing systems/instrumentation technician in maintenance, diagnostics, engineering, or production in an automated manufacturing environment.  The program focuses on electricity, electronics, fluid power, motors and controllers, programmable controls, robotics, interfacing technology, instrumentation, and automated machine processes.

The Associate in Applied Science degree is earned upon the successful completion of the Automation and Control Technology curriculum.

Job Opportunities:  Possible job positions include maintenance technician, electrical technician, calibration technician, and instrumentation technician.  Most job opportunities exist in manufacturing firms such as processing plants, power distribution and power generation plants, offshore industry, refineries, and shipyards.  A smaller number of jobs will be found in government agencies like NASA, scientific or industrial research firms, or firms that specialize in doing instrumentation work for others.  Most Automation and Control Technology graduates can expect a beginning salary from $16 to $28 per hour. 

Admission Requirements:

Applicants for Automation and Control Technology must have the following documents submitted:
1. PRCC Application for Admission;
2. An official transcript from an accredited high school indicating date of graduation or GED transcript indicating passing;
3. Official transcript from every college attended (if applicable); 
4. ACT scores.
