Program Description:
The Early Childhood Education
program provides preparation for a professional career in the field of
Early Childhood Education spanning a variety of career options. Instructional
programs include classroom instruction and supervised laboratory/collaborative
center or work experience in the field of child care. Students develop
competencies which will enable them to provide services, to teach, and
to guide young children as related to various early childhood professions.
An Associate of Applied Science degree (AAS) is earned upon successful
completion of the Early Childhood Education Technology curriculum.
Included is the study of:
- child growth
and development (birth to 8 years)
- behavior guidance
- health/nutrition
and safety
- program planning
and management
- child abuse
and neglect
- regulations
and policies relating to child care services
- interpersonal
relationships and law
- early intervention
Jobs are available
for workers in public, private, or parochial child care programs including
those in :
- industrial/institutional
centers
- public/private
child care facilities which serve children of all
socioeconomic levels and abilities
- recreational
centers

Admission Requirements:
1. Submit PRCC Application
for Admission;
2. Submit an official transcript
from an accredited high school indicating date of graduation or GED transcript
indicating passing;
3. Submit an official transcript
from every college attended (if applicable);
4. Must have ACT scores;
5. Must submit PRCC Early
Childhood Education Technology application (link to application on webpage);
6. Must submit an up-to-date
immunization record;
7. Must pass a criminal
records check;
8. Must complete Fingerprinting
and pay the Fingerprinting fee of $35;
9. Must successfully complete
all required developmental courses before entering sophomore course work.
