Drafting and Design
Technology

The
Drafting and Design Technology program is a two-year program of study designed
to provide specialized occupational instruction in all phases of drafting
technology in order to prepare students for positions in the drafting field.
Instruction includes a combination of classwork and laboratory experiences.
The
Drafting and Design Technology curriculum allows students to obtain skills
and knowledge related to several fields in the drafting and design industry.
A major emphasis is placed upon CAD software which is used by the majority
of the drafting industry. Basic applications in Geographic Information
Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) are included in the
curriculum.
The
Associate in Applied Science degree is earned upon the successful completion
of the Drafting and Design Technology curriculum.
Employment
Outlook: Excellent. As technological and scientific processes
continue to expand, job possibilities in drafting and design are unlimited
and in great demand. Graduates of the Drafting and Design program
may be employed as drafters in the following areas: steel production,
architecture, civil service, state highway, general drafting and engineering.
Admission
Requirements:
Applicants
for Drafting and Design Technology must have the following documents submitted:
1.
PRCC Application for Admission;
2.
An official transcript from an accredited high school indicating date of
graduation or GED transcript indicating passing;
3.
Official transcript from every college attended (if applicable);
4.
ACT scores.
