Poplarville Campus and Forrest
County Center
Electronics Technology is
the study of how electrons are used to accomplish a specific purpose.
Today, electronics are used in almost everything in our daily life from
computers, automobiles, to satellites in space so job opportunities abound.
The Electronics Technology
Program is designed to prepare students for technical positions in business
and industry. Upon completion of a prescribed curriculum, an Associate
in Applied Science Degree (AAS) will be awarded to the graduate. Although
technical programs are designed for immediate employment upon completion,
transfer credit toward a baccalaureate degree may be accepted from a four-year
institution in areas of technology and in industrial education. This should
be verified by the senior institution.
Employment Outlook:
Trained electronics technicians are in high demand. Jobs in the electronics
field average $10 - $20 per hour for an entry level position. Our
Electronics Technology graduates are working all around the world in various
facets of the field. Companies that have employed PRCC Electronics
graduates include Lockheed-Martin, Jacob Sverdrup, USGS, SAIC (National
Data Bouy), Nissan, GB Tech, Howard Industries, Bell South, and GE Biomed.
Certifications: There
are certifications that we offer here at PRCC that will benefit you in
your career. SpaceTec is an organization promoting aerospace technology.
Their vision is to be the focal point for aerospace related technical education
resources providing motivation for academic studies and professional development
services for faculty, students, and aerospace employees. They are based
at Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral Florida. SpaceTec created
a certification for aerospace technicians certifying them to be able to
be employed at NASA centers in the US. Check them out at www.spacetec.org.
