Machine Tool Operation/Machine
Shop Technology is a study of the process of using machine tools to manufacture
useful products. Almost all products used by people are dependent
on machine tools for their manufacture.
Machine Tool Operation/Machine
Shop Technology is a two-year program of study designed to provide students
with the specialized knowledge and skills necessary for gaining employment
as a machine tool technician or machine tool operator. The instructional
program prepares individuals to shape metal parts on machines such as lathes,
grinders, drill presses, and milling machines. Included is instruction
in making computations related work dimensions, testing, feeds, and speeds
of machines; using precision and gauges; machining and heat-treating various
metals; and laying out machine parts. Also included is instruction
in the operation and maintenance of computerized equipment.
The student will have the
option to pursue an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree which includes
fifteen semester hours of academic coursework in addition to the program
core courses or to pursue a Certificate of Proficiency which consists of
the program core courses.
Admissions Requirements:
Applicants for Machine Tool
Operation/Machine Shop Technology
must have the following
documents submitted:
1. PRCC Application for
Admission;
2. An official transcript
from an accredited high school indicating date of graduation or GED transcript
indicating passing;
3. Official transcript from
every college attended (if applicable);
4. ACT scores (for students
pursing the AAS degree).
