block laying, advanced brick laying, and chimney and fireplace construction.

Proficiency.
The Brick, Block and Stonemasonry
program is taught by Porter Soley.
Soley has been in
the masonry business for over 30 years, starting his career at Pearl River
Community College as a student in the masonry program in 1970. After
graduating, he served his apprenticeship through the Gulfport Bricklayers
& Craft Local, earning his Journeyman's card in 1975. His experience
includes commercial, industrial and residential masonry. Soley owned
his own business and sub-contracted in the area.
PRCC Brick, Block, and Stonemasonry
students have demonstrated their Brickmasonry skill expertise through State
and National Skills USA competition. Each year since 1998, PRCC students
have taken the first place title in the Brickmasonry division at the State
Skills USA competition and have placed in the top ten each year in the
division at the National Skills USA competition. |
