Bobby Connerly—1947-48 Wildcat Football
Bobby Connerly was born in
1929, attended PRC from 1947-49 and was a member of legendary head football
coach T.D. "Dobie" Holden's first Wildcat team in 1948.
Conerly was a right guard
for the Wildcats. He was named to the All-State first team, leading the
Wildcats to a 6-4 season, the first of 16 winning teams for Coach Holden.
Conerly said. "You know,
back then we didn't have cars. Everybody knew everybody else. For entertainment,
we walked down to the Methodist Church and back on Sundays, and then maybe
we went down to the river to go swimming."
Conerly came from Tylertown
High School. He met his late wife at PRC and had two brothers who followed
him to the school. He played both offense and defense and missed only five
plays during his sophomore season under Holden.
"Coach Holden was a lot stricter
than Coach Wade," Conerly said. "But I enjoyed playing for both of them."
