Robert J. "Buddy" Madison—1939-1941
Wildcat Baseball 1939-1941 baseball
star Robert J. "Buddy" Madison of Slidell, LA led the PRCC Baseball Wildcats
to a runnerup spot for the 1941 state championship while batting at a .520
clip. He left PRCC and joined the Andalusia Rams of the Alabama State
League and was immediately named to the all-star team.
Buddy volunteered
for the Army Air Corp and served as an aircraft maintenance technician
until 1945. Immediately after being discharged from service, he joined
the West Texas-New Mexico League where he played 10 consecutive games and
batted .300.
An old football
knee injury he received at PRCC during his first days on campus reoccurred,
forcing his early retirement.
Madison coached
and taught baseball at Slidell High School until 1958. He received
his master's degree in mathematics from the University of Southern Mississippi
in 1960 and taught at William Carey College until 1966.
He has been
a computer science professor at the University of Southeastern Louisiana
since 1968.
Buddy's wife
died in 1983, but they havew three grown daughters.
