George W. Bilbo, Sr.—1928-30 Wildcat
Football
. George W. Bilbo,
Sr., the 1929 PRC Wildcat football captain, played end and tackle for the
Wildcats. He was also a member of the 1928 Wildcats who won the state
championship for the fourth year in a row.
After leaving
PRC in 1930, Bilbo played guard for Ole Miss. In 1933 Bilbo was named
All-American and he played in the North-South All Star game in Knoxville.
He was also class president of the Liberal Arts School. After graduating
from Ole Miss, Bilbo coached football and baseball one year in Benoit.
His first baseball team had a 9-1 record.
At the end of
world War II, he moved his family home to Pearl River county where he bought
a farm. He served as principal at Thomas and Sellers and was a teacher
and coach at Brooklyn and Lumberton. He retired from the Lumberton
Line School District in 1974. He was also an election commissioner
for more than 30 years.
