Dudley Miller—1946-47 Wildcat Football

Dudley Miller
left his home in Fulton, Mississippi and joined other World War II veterans
to play football and basketball for the PRC Wildcats. He played guard
on both the football and basketball teams. He was selected
captain of the 1946 team which posted an 8-2-2 record and a Tung Bowl victory,
and captain of the 1947 team which recorded a 6-1-1 record and another
appearance in the Tung Bowl. Miller was All-State player both years.
He signed with the University of Wyoming Cowboys where he was again named
captain and made All-Skyline Conference, but he actually graduated from
Mississippi Southern College in 1951 and began his coaching career at Pearl
River in 1952 under Dobie Holden. In 1955, Miller became an assistant
coach at East Central, and in 1956, Miller accepted the position of Athletic
Director and head football coach at Itawamba where he remained until retirement
in 1973.
In 1963 he was
elected Mississippi Junior College Coach of the Year. After retirement
from Itawamba he served as a public utilities investigator with the Mississippi
Public Service Commission.
