Breakfast and Business Sessions

A new venture began at the Hancock Center in September with the launching of a new program called Breakfast and Business.  The sessions are coordinated with the Hancock County Chamber of Commerce and offer sessions of interest to the small business owners in the area to provide technical assistance with online presence strategies.  Sessions are outlined below. 

 

 

Thursday, September 17 – Online Presence Strategies

Breakfast 8:00 a.m. – Session 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. 

Learn why you need an online presence and the type of online presence that will be best for your business.  Do you need a custom design site or can you use a free template online?  Determine the results you would like to see from your web site to aide in designing a quality online site to promote your products and/or business.

Cost for Breakfast - $6.00.

Thursday, October 22 - mCommerce – Mobile Phones & Your Business

Breakfast 8:00 a.m. – Session 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. - COST $6.00

Join us to learn how mobile devices are changing how customers and visitors physically find your storefront.   We’ll share how you can control and post correct information about your business by claiming or registering your business with location based services like Google, Yelp, Foursquare, and TripAdvisor.  Then learn about the importance of a mobile friendly web site and when, where and how to use QR codes and mobile apps.

Website Design - 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Target Audience: Small businesses, community organizations, individuals

Trying to decide if your business needs a web site or where to start with developing a web site?  Join us to learn about template-based website building platforms and how you can create and manage your own web site.  In this course we will discuss how to choose your domain, lay out your website and began building a site.

 

Mobile Payment Processors - 10:30 a.m. – Noon

Target Audience: Crafters, Farmers Market Vendors, Artisans, 

Don’t miss out on a sale due to not accepting credit or debit cards.  Learn how you can take credit/debit card payments in person or on your web site through a mobile and/or online payment processor.  We’ll look at the fees and transactions rates for different processors and demonstrate how they can work for your business. 

 

Instagram - 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Target Audience: Small businesses, community organizations, individuals

Post pictures of items your customers will love and want to purchase.  Learn to use the social photography/video app to link with other platforms and market your product through a simple photo and caption.  iPads will be provided at the training.  Participants are welcome to bring their own mobile device, but will need to know their Apple ID login and password if using an Apple product.

 

Twitter - 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Target Audience: Small businesses, community organizations, individuals

Join us to learn about the micro-blogging, real time social media site, Twitter.  You‘ll learn what can you tweet in a 140 characters or less to promote your business? Tweet to create a conversation around your product/business and engage followers while gaining new ones. Learn how to strategically tweet and decide if you should sponsor your account or tweets.

Facebook Pages Tips/Tricks - 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Target Audience: Small businesses, community organizations, individuals

Too many settings and options on your Facebook Page?  Join us to learn about the settings and insights on your Facebook Page.  We’ll demonstrate different features to help you manage your Facebook Page better.  You must have access to a Facebook Page and have minimum 40 likes on the page you are accessing.

 

Facebook Advertising -   10:30 a.m. – Noon

Afraid of Facebook advertising, join us to learn more about Facebook Ads.  Learn about the features, pricing and how Facebook Ads can help your business communicate with existing and target new customers.

 

Website Building – 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

You must attend the Website Design course on Wednesday.  MSU Extension personnel will help you begin building your own website.

 

NOTE:  Feel free to bring your own device, but MSU Extension personnel will not troubleshoot device problems.  Computers and iPads will be provided at the trainings.  You MUST know your email address, social media logins, Apple ID and passwords before the courses begin.
