Mississippi Symphony tickets on sale

  POPLARVILLE - Tickets are on sale for the return of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra to the Ethel Holden Brownstone Center for the Arts in Poplarville.
  The symphony will perform for the third time at Pearl River Community College at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12.
  “We are excited about the return of the Mississippi Symphony to PRCC,” said Dr. Kyle Hill, Brownstone Center director. “This performance would not be possible without the support of the Mississippi Arts Commission.”
  The commission awarded Pearl River $4,100 for the concert.

Ropes and obstacle course opens

  POPLARVILLE - Pearl River Community College officially opened its Wildcat Wellness Ropes and Obstacle Course on Friday, Aug. 26.
  The course will be used by students in the First Year Seminar courses along with campus organizations and community groups, said Dr. Tara Rouse, Wellness Center director.
  The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation awarded PRCC a grant of $198,171 in September 2015 for the Wildcat Wellness Initiative. Of that, $25,000 was used for the ropes course and $10,300 for the obstacle course.

ACT Boot Camp registration coming up

  Pearl River Community College will hold an ACT Boot Camp on Friday, Sept. 30, at the Hancock Center in Waveland.
  The camp is open to any junior or senior high school student preparing to take the ACT. It will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the multipurpose room in building five at the Hancock Center, 454 Highway 90, Suite D..
  The instructor, Dr. Jennifer Seal, is an education and ACT prep specialist. In addition to learning tips and techniques to improve their scores, she will provide students with a study guide.

Kendale Lumpkins returns to PRCC

Maghan James completes fellowship program

  POPLARVILLE - Maghan James of Hattiesburg has completed the Education Policy Fellowship Progam (EPFP) which works to develop a diverse and collaborative community of strategic leaders for effective public policy.
  James, who was recently named Dean of Students at Pearl River Community College, traveled with 17 other Mississippi and four Alabama community college leaders to Washington, D.C., to advocate for year-round Pell Grant aid for students.

PRCC lends hand to Louisiana flood victims

Pearl River Community College instructors Deanna Holifield, from left, Kira Arthurs and Robin Nix load flood relief items Friday, Aug. 19, that were donated by PRCC colleagues and students at the Hancock Center and the Poplarville campus for victims in Louisiana. Arthurs, who lived in Baton Rouge for six years, will deliver the supplies to shelters, friends in need and animal shelters.

Kevin Costner tickets on sale

  POPLARVILLE - Tickets for the first premier event of the season at Pearl River Community College are on sale.
  Kevin Costner and Modern West, his country/rock band, will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at the Ethel Holden Brownstone Center for the Arts.
  Tickets are $50 on the floor and $40 for the balcony.
  Costner’s performance in Poplarville is the only appearance scheduled in Mississippi on his current tour.
