Summer Bridge Students Honored

POPLARVILLE – Thursday, June 26 Pearl River Community College’s Student Support Services Summer Bridge Program held their Student Recognition Banquet.

Eighteen students were recognized for finishing the Summer Bridge Program curriculum. This is a four week intensive program that allows for students to transition from high school to college and get an early start to their education. These students will begin their fall semester with 9 credit hours already completed.

Film, video technology added to curriculum

  POPLARVILLE - Pearl River Community College will offer a film and video technology (FVT) program beginning with the fall 2018 semester.
  The FVT program will offer students three pathways:
  • Attend for one year taking 30 credit hours and receive a career certificate;
  • Add an additional semester taking 45 credit hours and receive a technical certificate;
  • Add another 15 credit hours of required academic work to receive an Associate in Applied Science degree in Film and Video Technology.

PRCC receives grant support for kids’ camps

  POPLARVILLE - Pearl River Community College’s third year of Wildcat Way to Adventure camps for kids got a boost with a grant from the Lower Pearl River Valley Foundation.
  The foundation helped sponsor camps for students in kindergarten through ninth grade along with fees for five underprivileged children. Sixteen camps were held on the Poplarville campus and two were at the Forrest County Center.

Grant helps replace medical radiology equipment

  The medical radiology technology program at Pearl River Community College’s Forrest County Center received a grant from the Lower Pearl River Valley Foundation for replacement and upgrade of its laboratory equipment.
  The foundation provided $40,000 of the estimated $130,000 cost to upgrade one digital radiography machine and replace another that can’t be repaired. Without the two machines, the students will not know how to operate the equipment used in hospitals and clinics when they enter the job market.

PRCC hosting utility lineman apprentice program

  Pearl River Community College, the Mississippi Development Authority, Southern Mississippi Planning and Development District and three utility contractors are partnering to establish and expand a Lineman Apprenticeship Program.
  Chain Electric Co. of Hattiesburg, B & B Electrical of Brandon and MDR Construction of Columbia project significant growth and the need for more personnel in the next five years.
