Long Range Plans

Pearl River Community College Museum has made tremendous strides over the past four years of its existence.  Beginning at Homecoming in 2001, the museum has doubled in size each year.  The new exhibit hall is currently under renovation in certain areas, and other areas are open to the public.  (Click for a drawing of the proposed expansion.)

This expansion will allow the museum to showcase various collections that have not been exhibited.  The new expansion will also allow the exhibit of extensive photo collections of the aftermath of Hurricanes Camille and Katrina.  The new area will also feature a special exhibit called "Mississippi's Citadel:  Pearl River College during World War II."

The museum will also begin collecting educational memorabilia from the Pearl River College six-county district of Hancock, Lamar, Forrest, Jefferson Davis, Marion, and Pearl River, with the end goal of devoting a section of the museum to the history of early south Mississippi education.

The museum is also seeking to expand its Native American exhibit and is seeking arrowheads, spear points, knives, pottery and other artifacts from the area.

The museum also recently partnered with John C. Stennis Space Center's Office of Public Affairs. A special exhibit on the history and future of Stennis Space Center's role in NASA's goal of landing a man on the moon and then sending men to Mars was recently installed.

Also in the planning are a media room where a shortened version of the museum's award winning DVD on the history of Pearl River College will be available for viewing, video kiosks, audio tour guides, and other innovative media to accurately tell the college's history.

In the future (within 5 years) plans are being reviewed concerning a move into larger, more environmentally secure quarters.
