Douglas elected homecoming queen

POPLARVILLE – A Sumrall student has been elected Homecoming Queen at Pearl River Community College.
Carmen Jade Douglas will be crowned during halftime of the Oct. 21 football game against Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Kickoff is at 2 p.m. at Dobie Holden Stadium in Poplarville.
Douglas’s court includes sophomore maids Olivia Conley of Gulfport and Lauren Lee of Bassfield, freshman maids Hailey Bernard of Picayune and Addison Smith of Poplarville, Forrest County Center sophomore maid Patience Diggs of Bassfield, Forrest County Center freshman maid Sarah-Ashlyn Barber of Picayune, Hancock Center sophomore maid Haley Roberts of Kiln and Hancock Center freshman maid Alexus Palode of Pearlington.
The court will also be introduced to the student body during Fall Fest activities at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, in Poplarville.
Douglas, 19, is the daughter of John and Brandy Douglas of Sumrall.
She is a graduate of Sumrall High School where she was a cheerleader and member of the Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the veterinary science team. A kinesiology major at PRCC, she is a Wildcat cheerleader and member of the FCA Leadership Team and Phi Theta Kappa honor society. She plans to attend the University of Southern Mississippi.
Conley, 19, is the daughter of Linda and Howard Conley of Gulfport. A graduate of Gulfport High School, she was marching band drum major and a member of the symphonic band. She is head drum major for the PRCC Spirit of the River marching band and a biochemistry major. She plans to attend Mississippi State University.
The daughter of Wesley and Bridget Lee of Bassfield, Lee is also 19. She is a graduate of Columbia Academy where she was Student Body treasurer and a member of the show choir, DECA, National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. At PRCC, she was a member of River Road show choir and sings in the pop choir. She plans to major in speech pathology at Southern Miss.
Bernard, 18, is the daughter of Patricia Barnett of Picayune where she graduated with high honors from Picayune Memorial High School. She was a cheerleader and member of the Beta Club and National Honor Society in high school and is a PRCC Wildcat cheerleader. She plans to major in elementary education at MSU.
Smith is the 18-year-old daughter of Tony and Angie Smith of Poplarville. She graduated from Picayune Memorial High School with honors and was a cheerleader and member of the Student Council and National Honor Society. Smith is a PRCC Wildcat cheerleader and on the FCA Leadership Team. She plans to continue her education at Southern Miss.
Diggs, 20, is the daughter of Amanda Cooley and John C. Barber, both of Bassfield. She graduated from East Marion High School where she played volleyball. At PRCC’s Forrest County Center, she is the nursing department work-study employee and a member of the History and Humanities Club, Travel Club and Social Science Club and the Student Government Association. After receiving a nursing degree, she plans to work before pursuing a second degree in early childhood development.
Barber is the 18-year-old daughter of Brian and Danica Barber of Picayune. She graduated from Picayune Memorial High School as a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club and Key Club president. She is a Dr. William Lewis Honors Institute ambassador, member of PTK, Sigma Kappa Delta English honorary, Mu Alpha Theta math honorary and Student Government Association, History and Humanities Club president and a Student Success Center peer leader. She plans to attend MSU to major in veterinary medicine.
The 19-year-old daughter of Gina and John Roberts of Kiln, Roberts is a graduate of Douglas County High School in Colorado where she was on the tennis and golf teams. She is involved in community service for the Hancock County Pantry and Trunk or Treat in Pearlington. She plans to transfer to MGCCC to earn an embalming certificate.
Palode, 18, is the daughter of Ada and Sunni Palode of Pearlington. She graduated from Hancock High School where she ran track and was a member of Future Educators Rising. She also is involved in community service for the Hancock County Pantry and Trunk or Treat in Pearlington. She plans to earn bachelor’s and master’s degree in elementary education at MSU.

Each community college president is asked to bring two (2) wrapped door prizes, minimum value of $50 each. We will have a station set up at the conference for you to drop off the door prizes.

Each community college is asked to provide name tags for their Board members, administration, and staff attending the conference.
