Jackson Prep sweeps Mississippi Showchoir Contest

HATTIESBURG – Reveillon from Jackson Prep took home Grand Champion honors Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Mississippi Showchoir Contest.Thirty-three showchoirs from middle, junior and senior high schools competed in the annual event hosted by Pearl River Community College at William Carey University.First runnner-up was Company from South Jones High School. Petal High Soundsations was second runner-up followed by Centerstage! from Oak Grove High School, third runner-up, and South Jones High School New Edition women showchoir, fourth runner-up.Jackson Prep and South Jones tied for the best vocals award while Jackson Prep took honors for best visuals and best show design.The Grand Champion solo award went to Kayla Patterson of South Jones.Reveillon, directed by Dianne Holbert with choregraphy by April James and Jarad Voss, took first runner-up honors in the 2011 contest. The group 2012 show includes Lights, Fly Away/True Colors with soloist Joy Waller; Something Got A Hold on Me with soloist Evelyn Field; Who Loves You, Bright Lights with soloists Connor Ball, Ty Higginbotham, Wilson Hays and John-David Polk; and Live in Living Color with soloist Zack Watson.Awards in middle school competition went to:Middle School Class A – Pearl River Central New Edition, first; Jackson Academy Showtime, second; and Clinton Christian Academy, third.Middle School Class AA – Clinton Junior High Ambassadors, first; Brio from Brandon Middle School, second; and South Jones Middle School Infusion, third. The Ambassadors also took home the awards for best vocals, best visuals and best show design.The Middle School Grand Champion Solo Award went to Taylor Sims of Clinton Middle School.

Each community college president is asked to bring two (2) wrapped door prizes, minimum value of $50 each. We will have a station set up at the conference for you to drop off the door prizes.

Each community college is asked to provide name tags for their Board members, administration, and staff attending the conference.
