Lady ''Cats swept by Lady Raiders

NICEVILLE, Fla. The nationally-ranked Pearl River Lady Wildcats were swept by Northwest Florida State here Tuesday, falling to the Lady Raiders 2-0 and 6-0. PRCC, ranked 19th in the latest NJCAA Division II poll, fell to 17-13 overall; while NWFS, ranked 10th in the latest NJCAA Division I poll, improved to 34-6. In the first game, Lady Wildcat starter Sheila Hall of Dutchtown (La.) High hurled a two-hitter, but still absorbed the loss. She gave up two runs in the bottom of the first inning and things were scoreless from there on out. Hall (9-6) also struck out three batters and walked four. Starter Emily Rousseau (20-1) was the winning pitcher in going the distance, giving up three hits and striking out eight. Heather Hester of Hancock County High, Brandy Rester of Poplarville High, and Samantha Spence of George County High all singled for Pearl River; while Shelby Cox had a two-run double and Ashlyn Masters singled for the Lady Raiders. PRCC committed one error in the contest to the Lady Raiders none. In the nightcap game, NWFS scored two runs in the bottom of the second, two in the fifth, and two in the sixth to take the 6-0 victory. Starter Rose Portiolli (4-1) got the win in going the distance, giving up two hits and striking out three; while Hester (7-7) started for PRCC and also went the distance. She gave up eight hits, struck out four, and walked one. Janessa Dedeaux of Poplarville High and ETrareo Warren of Meridian High singled for the Lady Wildcats. Brittany Dunson led Northwest Florida State with a double and two singles, Whitney Fletcher doubled and singled, Masters and Maria Tanaka doubled, and Allison Rice singled. Pearl River committed three errors in the game to the hosts one. The Lady Wildcats resume MACJC South Division action Friday against Southwest Mississippi in Summit in a 3 p.m. doubleheader before hosting division foe Copiah-Lincoln Tuesday in a 4 p.m. twin bill.
