Miss PRCC 2020 Crowned

POPLARVILLE, Miss – Pearl River’s Ethel Holden Brownstone Center was filled with poise and talent Thursday night as the candidates for the 2020 Miss Pearl River Community College Preliminary Scholarship Competition graced the stage. The night ended with the crowning of PRCC’s next representative in Miss Mississippi 2021; Miss PRCC 2020, Hollie Morgan, of Hattiesburg.  

Third Alternate, Sciena Lavergne, Second Alternate Gabrielle Lewis and First Alternate Alyssa Rogers embraced and congratulated Miss PRCC 2020 Morgan upon her crowning. Miss Congeniality and Talent Winner was Sciena Lavergne. The overall Ad Sales Winner was Brooke Kitchens and the Evening Gown Winner was Kaitlyn Warden. The competition, consisting of nine candidates, was diverse with the ladies exemplifying their abilities through a plethora of events including Private Interview, On-Stage Interview, Evening Gown/Social Impact Statement and Talent. Between performances, Sunni’s Elite Dance Academy of Poplarville entertained the audience with energetic dance numbers. 

The candidates started their day in closed interviews with the judges before moving on to the stage portion of the night. Mistress of Ceremonies and PRCC Marketing and Communications Specialist Kari Eve Valence welcomed the ladies to the stage as they prepared to answer on stage interview questions. Miss PRCC 2019 Jessie Besanson then wowed the audience with a performance of the talent she took to Miss Mississippi 2019. The candidates then showed their skills through the talent portion of the evening. The talents ranged in variety including song, tap jazz and lyrical dance, flag routine, and monologue. After highlighting their poise crossing the stage in evening attire, each candidate shared their social impact initiative with the audience and judges. 

The Candidates 

KyLeigh Richardson, of Fruitdale, AL, tap danced to “Feat Don’t Fail Me Now” and represented an initiative of Organ Donation. She plans to pursue her education to become a Special Education Teacher. 

Brooke Kitchens, of Purvis, performed a color guard routine to “Strangers Like Me’ and promoted Anxiety Awareness. Kitchens is working toward a career as a Pediatric Nurse. 

Gabrielle Lewis, of Poplarville, performed a sign interpretation of the song “You Say” and promoted the education of our future readers. Her lifelong dream is to become an Overseas Missionary and is working toward that goal by majoring in linguistics. 

Hollie Morgan, of Hattiesburg, performed the song “Popular” from Wicked and hoped to encourage young men and women through her initiative Secure Your Insecurities: Confidence Awareness. Her career goal is to become a doctor of Clinical Nutrition. 

Cambri Brewer, of Petal, tap danced to “U Can’t Touch This” and encouraged the audience to consider the health of the state through her initiative Promoting a Smoke-Free Mississippi. Brewer’s ambition is to become a dentist. 

Alex Harrell, of Poplarville, performed a monologue from Peter Pan and talked about her personal journey with education through her initiative Learning Disability Awareness. Harrell’s ambition is to continue her path of entrepreneurship. 

Alyssa Rogers, of Purvis, performed a jazz dance to the song “Big Spender” and promoted her social initiative Shining Lights. Her ambition is to become a clinical analyst. 

Kaitlyn Warden, of Ovett, sang “For Good” for her talent and had the audience consider their use of social media through her campaign Post Only Positive #POP. Warden’s ambition is to become a retail manager for evening wear designers. 

Sciana Lavergne, of Long Beach, performed a lyrical dance to the song “Heaven” dedicated to her grandmother and spoke about her personal family connection to Autism through her social initiative TEAAM Autism. Lavergne’s ambition is to become a nurse practitioner. 

Newly Crowned Miss PRCC Hollie Morgan will begin her reign immediately and will represent Pearl River at the Miss Mississippi Competition in June.

Each community college president is asked to bring two (2) wrapped door prizes, minimum value of $50 each. We will have a station set up at the conference for you to drop off the door prizes.

Each community college is asked to provide name tags for their Board members, administration, and staff attending the conference.
