Pearl River honors students learn leadership outdoors

Members of the Dr. William Lewis Honors Institute Poplarville Campus ended the semester by participating in leadership training at the PRCC Ropes Course.

This interactive experience was the culmination of year-long leadership studies in which the Honors Students have participated.

“Honors students have worked throughout this academic year to develop and hone leadership skills,”  Dean of the Honor’s Institute Poplarville Campus Dr. Jennifer Seal said. “As leadership studies conclude, these students are better prepared for future endeavors because they have learned to build and empower strong teams.”

The students said that they were challenged to think differently, quickly, and efficiently to effectively lead others. Additionally, students articulated that the benefits of an outdoor learning environment include working outside comfort zones, incorporating a physical dimension to leadership and considering holistic needs of a group.

While some friendly competition was involved, overall camaraderie was encouraged and communication, the overarching key to leadership, emerged victorious.
