POPLARVILLE Pearl River Community College pulled off a weekend women and men soccer sweep against MACJC non-division foes Northwest Mississippi and Itawamba. The Lady Wildcats pounced Northwest Lady Rangers 5-0 on Friday before defeating ICC Lady Indians 3-1 Saturday, while the Wildcats took 3-2 and 2-0 victories over the Rangers and Indians, respectively. PRCC women remain undefeated at 3-0, while its men are 2-1. Northwest women dropped to 0-1, while Itawamba fell to 2-0. The Rangers are 0-1, while the Indians are 0-2. In women action on Friday, Pearl River jumped out to a commanding 4-0 lead at the intermission before scoring a solo goal in the second half. Ana Lee of Picayune High got things going with a pair of goals at the 38:10 and 19:05 marks, then Emmaleigh Davis, a University of Memphis transfer who prepped at Pascagoula High, scored one of her two goals in the game with 13:55 left before the break. Maguy Paschal of Bay High banged one into the net in the final minute to make it 4-0 at the break. Davis added the final goal in the second half. In men action, the Rangers went up 1-0 off Jesse Moore goal at the 35:15 mark of the first half, but James Zanelli of Essex, U.K., tied it up with a goal five minutes later and that stalemate remained intact at the intermission. Garrett Head of Oak Grove High scored two goals in the second half for the Wildcats, while Joseph Paez nailed the Ranger final score. Saturday women game versus ICC saw all its scoring in the first half. Davis scored goals at the 25:50 and 13:05 marks, while Lee had a goal with 16:10 left. Estefany Fernandez scored for the Lady Rangers with 5:15 left before the intermission. In men action, Zanelli and Head scored The River goals at the 34:40 and 10:20 marks of the first half. The second half was scoreless. The Wildcats return to action Tuesday when Hinds plays host in a men only contest Tuesday in Raymond (7 p.m.), then East Central visits Pearl River Tuesday, Sept. 6 for 5 p.m. (women) and 7 p.m. (men) games.
