POPLARVILLE - A Pearl River Community College basketball player has received a Mississippi Department of Transportation scholarship for the second time.Alayna Bridges of Hattiesburg, a sophomore business major at PRCC, is one of 20 community college students statewide who received the scholarship through MDOT and the Mississippi Transportation Commission.Bridges graduated from Oak Grove High School in 2010 and is a forward on the Lady Wildcats basketball team. She is the daughter of Debra and Johnny Bridges, who works in the traffic services division of MDOT Hattiesburg District Office.Bridges also received the scholarship last year.Funds for the scholarships are available through the Southeastern Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, a consortium of 12 southeastern state transportation agencies.I am very pleased to see these well-deserving students receive the scholarships which will assist them in pursuing their career goals, said Melinda McGrath, MDOT interim executive director. While transporation is the back bone of our state economy, education is equally important.
