River sweeps Co-Lin

WESSON Pearl River Community College swept Copiah-Lincoln in MACJC women and men South Division soccer action here Wednesday with the Lady Wildcats pulling off a 2-1 come-from-behind win, while the Wildcats blew out the host Wolfpack 6-1. PRCC women improved to 11-1 overall and 5-0 in division play, while its men team are now 7-4-1 and 3-1-1. CLCC women fell to 2-7 and 0-5, while its men are now 1-8 and 0-5. In the women game, Pearl River trailed 1-0 at the intermission, but scored two goals in the second half for the win. Emmaleigh Davis, a sophomore transfer from the University of Memphis who prepped at Resurrection High in Pascagoula, scored on a penalty kick, while Jordan Organ of Forrest County AHS scored on a free kick. Elizabeth Cudjoe scored the Lady Wolves first-half goal. In the men game, PRCC led 3-1 at the break, then shut out the Wolfpack 3-0 in the second half. James Zanelli out of Ockendon Academy in Essex, U.K., scored three goals for the Wildcats, while Garrett Head of Oak Grove High added two and Austin Slade of Poplarville High one. Pacer Frierson of Picayune Memorial High, Kent Milsap of Laurel High, and Zanelli all had assists for The River. Pearl River swept Co-Lin 6-0 (women) and 4-0 (men) in previous meetings played Sept. 9 in Poplarville. PRCC returns to action Saturday when South Division arch-rival Mississippi Gulf Coast visits Wildcat Stadium (women 1 p.m., men 3 p.m.), then it a road trip to Clinton to take on Mississippi College (women 5 p.m., men 7 p.m.). It more division action Friday, Oct. 14, when Southwest Mississippi hosts in Summit (women 1 p.m., men 3 p.m.), then Pearl River wraps its regular season Wednesday, Oct. 19, when it hosts Jones County (women 5:30 p.m., men 7:30 p.m.). The Lady Wildcats have already clinched a berth in the MACJC State Tournament set Oct. 22-23 at the home field of the North Division men champion. The Wildcats post-season hopes are still in limbo. The Region 23 Tournament is set for Oct. 30-31 at a yet-to-be-decided location.
