River sweeps East Miss 2-0, 11-1

SCOOBA Pearl River Wildcats swept East Mississippi 2-0, 11-1 in MACJC non-division baseball action here Saturday. PRCC improved to 4-0 overall, while EMCC dropped to 1-8. In the first game, the Wildcats scored solo runs in the top of the third and seventh innings to take the victory. River starter Taylor Byrd of Petal High (1-0) got the win in his five innings on the mound, giving up two hits, striking out five, walking two, and hitting three batters; while Beau Underwood out of St. Patrick High in Biloxi relieved in the sixth, striking out one; and Jared Bond of Denham Springs (La.) High took over in the seventh, giving up a hit and striking out one. Lion starter Kameron Hester got the loss in his four-and-one-thirds innings of action, giving up six hit and striking out two; while Zane Migues relieved in the fifth and pitched two frames, giving up three hits, striking out three, and walking two. Cole Vaughan hurled the final two-thirds of an inning, striking out one. Grae Ormon of Clinton High paced the Wildcats nine-hit attack with a double and a single, while Jordan Williams out of Christian County High in Hopkinsville, Ky., had two base hits (one RBI), and Casey Comfort of Oak Grove High, Ethan Ewoldt of Oak Grove High (one RBI), Aaron Lee of Pearl River Central, Chase Lewallen of Sumralll High, and Matthew Magee of Petal High all had singles. Tyler Aldridge and Mitch Bohon both doubled for East Miss, while Hilton Gibson singled. In the second game, the first inning was scoreless, but the Wildcats bombarded the Lions with six in the top of the second, three in the third, and solo runs in the sixth and seventh frames. The Lions scored their four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Starter Blake Juneau (1-0) of Marksville (La.) High got the win in his five innings on the mound, giving up two hits, striking out three, and walking two; while Carlos Rios and Hunter Curtis, both Oak Grove High recruits, both relieved in the sixth. Rios gave up two hits and walked a batter, while Curtis struck out one and hit a batter. Underwood pitched the seventh, striking out one. B.J. Smith of Sumrall High led the Wildcats 13-hit effort with three base hits (one RBI), while Magee (one RBI) and Ormon (two RBIs) both doubled and singled. Lee had two singles (one RBI), while James Abraham, a Southeastern Louisiana transfer who prepped at St. Stanislaus in Bay St. Louis (two RBIs), Lewallen (one RBI), Chase Tourssaint of Petal High, and Williams all had singles. Aldridge had two singles for East Mississippi, while Gibson and Noah Greer both had base hits. Each team committed one error in the game. The Wildcats return to action Tuesday when they travel to the University of South Alabama to play Bishop State (Ala.) in a 2 p.m. doubleheader, then MACJC non-division foe Holmes visits Wildcat Stadium Friday and Baton Rouge (La.) Saturday for 2 p.m. twin bills.
