River sweeps Itawamba

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College swept Itawamba in MACJC women''s and men''s non-division soccer action here Friday.The defending MACJC state champ Lady Wildcats took a convincing 5-0 shutout victory over the Lady Indians, while the Wildcats rallied from a 0-1 halftime deficit behind a second-half, two-goal effort by sophomore Tyler Szura of Forrest County AHS to win 2-1.Both PRCC squads improved to 2-0 on the season.In women''s action, Ashlee Arnau of Oak Grove High scored two goals to pace the Lady Wildcats, while Brittany Griffis of Presbyterian Christian, Jordan Organ of Forrest County AHS, and Heather Smith of Oak Grove High all had solo scores.In men''s action, ICC''s Logan Ayers'' first-half solo goal gave the visiting Indians a 1-0 edge at the intermission before Szura''s pair of scores in the second half iced the victory.The River returns to action Tuesday with a men''s only contest against the Delta State University Junior Varsity at 3 p.m., then MACJC non-division rival East Central visits Wednesday for 5:30 p.m. (women) and 7:30 p.m. (men) contests. PRCC opens MACJC South Division play Saturday with a road trip to Southwest Mississippi in Summit. The Lady Wildcats play the Lady Bears at 1 p.m. followed by the Wildcats'' contest at 3 p.m.

Each community college president is asked to bring two (2) wrapped door prizes, minimum value of $50 each. We will have a station set up at the conference for you to drop off the door prizes.

Each community college is asked to provide name tags for their Board members, administration, and staff attending the conference.
