Students, employees spread holiday cheer

POPLARVILLE – Students and employees at Pearl River Community College sponsored several efforts to make Christmas bright for others.
•The Fellowship of Christmas Athletes chapter sponsored Operation Christmas Joy and hosted a party Dec. 2 for special needs students at Poplarville, Picayune and Pearl River County schools.  Approximately 150 children received gifts, played games and had a pizza lunch.
•Faculty and staff in the career and technical education departments donated enough toys and money to provide toys and clothing for a family of three children sponsored by Barn Church. Additional toys went to Poplarville Lower Elementary School for distribution.
•The Alumni Association sponsored a campus-wide drive to assist the No Shave November group in providing toys for about 100 area children. More than $2,500 was collected by the groups to purchase clothing and other essentials for the children.
•The Association of Educational Office Professionals collected socks and blankets for residents of the Pearl River County Nursing Home. AEOP also collects food year-round for the Poplarville Back Pack Buddies program that provides food on the weekend for about 75 students at Poplarville schools.
