POPLARVILLE - History and political science instructor Jim Walsh is PRCC Humanities Teacher of the Year.The annual award is given by the Mississippi Humanities Council.Walsh will make a presentation on "Mississippi and the (New) South in the Spanish_American War" at 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 16, in the tiered classroom in the Nursing Building.A native of Indianapolis, Walsh graduated from Indiana University with a double major in Medieval History and Medieval Culture. After a 15_year career in the fine wine and spirits trade, he returned to academia and received his Masters of Arts Degree from the University of New Orleans.Walsh is enrolled in the doctoral program at the University of Southern Mississippi with an emphasis on the study of American Empire in the late Gilded Age. He is currently working on his dissertation, which is entitled "Imperial Tales: Race, Gender, and Empire in the Popular Literature of the Spanish_American War Period, 1895_1915."He has presented conference papers for such organizations as the Southern Historical Society, the Popular Culture Association and the Conference on Inter_American Relations.The public is invited to attend Walsh presentation.
