Message from the President regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19)

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River Community College administrators continuously evaluate the Coronavirus situation as the state provides updates.

“We are closely monitoring the updates and concerns regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19),” Pearl River President Dr. Adam Breerwood said. “At this time the college will be closed next week for spring break. We will resume our normal class schedule on Monday, March 23rd.

“PRCC is in regular contact with Mississippi Department of Health and local health officials to ensure the well-being of our students, faculty and staff. Please stay up to date by visiting prcc.edu/coronavirus and following our institution’s social media sites.”

ATHLETICS

Based on developments with the Coronavirus, the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges has announced the suspension of all practices and competition for all sports through March 30.

The NJCAA has already announced the postponement of all championship events until April 20, including the NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament, which was scheduled to start Monday in Hutchinson, Kansas.

“Due to the concerns surrounding the safety and security of our student-athletes and those involved with Division I and Division II NJCAA championships, we are postponing the tournaments and maintaining a fluid mentality to see these tournaments take place with a tentative start date,” NJCAA President & CEO Dr. Christopher Parker said. We have two main objectives in this situation – first and foremost is to protect the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, college personnel, and fans. Second is to make sure our student-athletes receive the national championship experience that they have worked so hard for.”

According to the NJCAA, start dates for all tournaments and championships will continue to follow state and local mandates, restrictions and regulations.
