To Dream

There they were
Two dreamers,
Looking for a life
And instead finding
Each other
One lost boy
One frightened girl
Together
Clinging to the little they shared
Never being true to themselves
He loved, as did she
Yet even the most perfect things can end
Like a blooming rose
Drying in the sun
They lost themselves a petal at a time
As the winter days grew near,
So grew cold the fire in their hearts
And still they clung
Fearful to let go, afraid to lose
The comfort of each others touch
They drifted
Together and alone
Until the final anchor dropped
Sinking into their souls
Stopping the lying and the trying
And giving back themselves
Their hearts
Heavy from the weight were carried
Until the anchors were lifted
And the wind carried them out again
