If you plan to take your core curriculum at Pearl River Community College and then attend a four-year college or university to earn a Bachelor's Degree, then you have chosen the right path.  Mississippi community colleges offer a better opportunity for a student to do well in pusuit of his or her degree than even the students who started out in a four-year college or university, and Pearl River Community College ranks at the top of the list.  The statistics back it up.  That's because you get individual attention from the highly qualified instructors.  The classes are small, just like the expensive private colleges.  In some universities, the class size for core curriculum classes can be as large as 250 students!  That's the size of many Mississippi high schools whole senior class.  You can't get as much out of a class that size than you can out of a class of 25 or fewer students.  The instructor can spend more time with you.  Besides class size, some colleges and universities will employ graduate students to teach the core curriculum.  That means they have a bachelor's degree, whereas Mississippi community colleges requre each academic instructor to hold a Master's plus additional hours of study in the classes they teach.  Many of Pearl River Community College instructors even hold a doctorate in their discipline.

The college's catalog lists most major fields of study and the classes that you must take which will transfer with you to the college or university you choose.   In order to make sure that you get all of the core curriculum necessary to begin your major field's requirements at the particular college or university you wish to attend, you should meet with a counselor in the college's Counseling Center, located in Crosby Hall.
