Wellness Center

Wellness is a state of health more positive than the mere absence of disease.  Wellness is the conscious and deliberate effort to stay healthy and achieve the highest potential for physical, social, emotional, intellectual and spiritual well-being. 

The PRCC Wellness Center, adjacent to the Associate Degree Nursing building offers a 15,000 square foot facility.  The center is equipped with an elevated walking/running track, aerobic exercise room, spin room, women’s and men’s locker rooms, and a large workout area with Lifefitness cardio equipment and Lifefitness/Hammer strength equipment.

Information

You must be at least 16 years of age to join and use the facility. See memberships for information about joining. 

A valid PRCC student ID or a Humana insurance card (if applicable) must be presented upon entering. We offer a simple computer log-in system that will identify members upon swiping an ID. If you have lost your PRCC student ID, you must visit the PRCC Business Office for a replacement. 

We encourage our members to attend a training session upon joining the Wellness Center. During this course, you will be introduced to the exercise equipment including how to select appropriate weight, how to adjust seats, and how to lift properly. You’ll have an opportunity to ask questions about specific exercises and will also receive an exercise program. Please schedule your Show Me How session at the front desk. 

Our dress code applies to exercise performed inside the facility, outdoor track, outdoor exercise equipment, bike rental, and any exercise-related activity hosted by the Wellness Center: 

  • Shirts – t-shirts and tank tops must cover the torso area, including the chest, abdomen, and back. Sports bras cannot be worn alone. Be cautious that shirts with rips may cause a hazard by getting caught in equipment. 
  • Pants/shirts – athletic shorts or pants, only. No jeans or jean shorts or any other type of pants/shorts. Certain materials and rivets can cause wear on our equipment; therefore, are not permitted. 
  • Shoes – athletic shoes, only. Casual or dress footwear such as sandals, flip-flops, boots, and any shoe that has an open-toe or open-heel are not permitted. 

In the event you forget your athletic clothing, you may use the upstairs or outdoor walking/running track as long as you have proper athletic footwear. 

Making and receiving phones calls and text messages are prohibited on the main exercise floor. This can be an annoyance to those around you. You may use your cell phone on the upstairs walking track. 

Recording video is prohibited in all areas of the facility. 

Playing music aloud on your cell phone or personal speakers is prohibited. 

Members may use a locker, free of charge while exercising but must remove belongings after exercise. Availability may be limited and you must supply your own lock. 

We are not responsible for your personal items; therefore, secure them in a locker. 

Please do not obstruct the floor, exercise rooms, and machines with gym bags and other personal belongings. 

Lost and found items are kept behind the front counter. 

Water and sports drinks can be brought into the fitness area in closed containers. 

No food or chewing gum on the exercise floor. 

Supplement/energy shakes and pills are not allowed inside the facility. 

We offer a variety of assisted strength machines, cable/pulley machines, and free weights. We expect our members to use all weight equipment properly. 

Please avoid dropping and banging weights and use a spotter when lifting heavy free weights. 

Our staff can assist anyone who needs guidance with strength training. We offer a “Show Me How” class several times throughout the week. This class will provide you with a basic exercise program and guidance through all exercise machines. Visit the Wellness Center for class dates and times. 

Please use the disinfectant wipes provided to clean machines after use.

We offer a variety of cardio machines including treadmills, elliptical trainers, stair climbers, and cycles. 

Please limit use to 30 minutes during our peak hours or when others are waiting.

Please report any injury or sudden illness such as dizziness, nausea, or vomiting to a staff member. In most cases, we may call campus police to provide assistance. 

Please do not exercise in the facility if you have a contagious illness such as the flu or stomach virus or if you have an injury that can be further aggravated with exercise. 

The Wellness Center shares a parking lot with the nursing department and other surrounding departments and offices. Be aware that parking may be limited. 

If you feel that parking is difficult during certain hours, please consider visiting our facility during non-peak hours. 

We provide parking decals for our community members at no charge. You may ask for a parking decal at the front counter of the Wellness Center.

Our facility will follow all PRCC closing alerts for inclement weather conditions. 

Our staff is trained to direct our members to safety zones in the event of a tornado, fire, and any other sudden and severe weather outbreak.

Each community college president is asked to bring two (2) wrapped door prizes, minimum value of $50 each. We will have a station set up at the conference for you to drop off the door prizes.

Each community college is asked to provide name tags for their Board members, administration, and staff attending the conference.
