Workforce class roofs Picayune park pavilion

POPLARVILLE – A Pearl River Community College workforce construction class recently roofed a pavilion at Picayune’s Mildred Mitchell Park.
“Actually working on a project is a much more valuable experience than being in a classroom atmosphere,” instructor Jesse Walker said.
Walker’s drafting students designed the pavilion during the spring 2016 semester.
The project was a collaboration between the City of Picayune, Collier Construction and PRCC. The Pearl River County Homebuilders Association coordinated and funded it.
Walker will be teaching a basic carpentry workforce training class during the spring semester. The class will meet from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, beginning Jan. 9. Cost is $150.
For more information on the class, contact Cheryl Frierson at 601 403-1113 or cfrierson@prcc.edu.

Justin Dement of Baxterville, a student in the Pearl River Community College workforce construction class, works on the roof of the pavilion at Mildred Mitchell Park in Picayune.
